HOW ATHLETE’S FOOT CAN BE DIAGNOSED?

A foot specialist can diagnose athlete’s foot by the symptoms. A specialist may arrange a skin test in the event that they aren’t sure a fungal infection is causing your symptoms.

A skin lesion potassium hydroxide test is the most well-known test for athlete’s foot. A specialist scratches off a little area of contaminated skin and places it in potassium hydroxide. The KOH damages normal cells and leaves the fungal cells to stay, so that they can be seen easily under microscope.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT OF ATHLETE’S FOOT?

How you can treat advanced athlete’s foot?

Infected athlete’s foot treatment includes following:

Since there is no single reason for athlete’s foot there is no single treatment. Nevertheless,  a dry, clean, and friction free environment for the feet prevents further spread of the fungus.

Occlusive shoe materials, for example, vinyl, which cause the feet to stay damp, gives a prefect environment for the fungus to grow.

Certain people have a condition called hyperhydrosis which leads to excess sweating in the palms and feet  The utilization of antiperspirants like 20% aluminum chloride (Drysol) can help keep your feet dry.

In the event that the fungal infection has spread to the toenails, the nails should likewise be treated to prevent reinfection of the feet. It is essential to treat the entirety of the infection to prevent recurrence and spread.

Athlete’s foot care is very important otherwise it gets worse

Avoiding walking barefoot combined with good foot hygiene can help reduce the spread of the fungus. Feet should be washed every day with soap and water and thoroughly dried, including between the toes. Feet should be kept as dry as possible. If your feet sweat a lot, you may need to change your socks during the day. Antifungal powders, sprays and/or creams are often used to treat athlete’s foot.
